'Family': Amitabh, Rajinikanth And More Make A Short Film Without Being On Set Together

Watch Video:

According to Deadline, the Indian film industry officially shut down all forms of production on around 16th March. Some of the movies released earlier this year witnessed early digital releases. The ones that were going to release in March were indefinitely postponed. The same thing happened with Hollywood and every other film industry. TV shows that had completed production gave some hope. But for the most part it looked like movie-based entertainment has breathed its last. However, then short films shot at home, like Chintu and Shadowed, started releasing. And now a super-duper multi-starrer like Family has joined the roster as well.

Now, you might be wondering why I am not reviewing this like I've been reviewing short films. That's because it's not technically a short film, even though they're claiming that it is. It's just an ornamental video, much like the Muskurayega India music video that multiple Bollywood celebs have produced, to send a message about unity. Also, because if I strip away the ornamental value and the fan service that stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth, Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Sonalee Kulkarni, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Shiva Rajkumar & Diljit Dosanjh provide from their homes, then there's nothing much in it. Just a paper thin plot with sub par acting that's haphazardly stitched together.

That said, I do commend the effort that's been put in to make this happen, especially for a charitable cause during the COVID-19 pandemic. It isn't every day that you get to see such a wide array of stars in the same project. And since India is a country that blindly follows the people they see on celluloid, it's probable that their message about social distancing positivity, solidarity, and safety will reach them. In addition to that, here's to hoping that when this lockdown comes to an end, all these stars do come together for a feature film.
