Looks like 2021 would be the year of 'paisa vasool' and 'dhamaka' moments, as Bollywood has been hopeful about witnessing the release of the highly anticipated movies. Not just multiplexes and big screens, for a country like India, where single-screen theatres still rule millions of hearts, the pandemic indeed proved as a game changer financially and emotionally for the entertainment industry as well as for us. Shootings were stalled, release dates were postponed, most films have managed to complete their schedules amidst the pandemic, abiding by the rules of the new normal; while a few movies had their digital releases, several makers decided to wait until theatres open up successfully. As 2020 would officially wrap up, here are 10 movies which have been slated for a 2021 release.
Rohit Shetty's highly anticipated cop drama was all scheduled to release on March 24th, 2020. Due to the pandemic, the makers have decided to slate it for a 2021 release around January and March. The movie, which is a part of the 'Singham' franchise, stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in pivotal characters.
John Abraham who portrayed the character of Virendra Rathod in the first movie of Satyameva Jayate is all set to reprise his role for its sequel. Fans already have great expectations for the film, as the first part did extremely well in the box office. The shooting has been in full swing in Lucknow. The movie also Divya Kumar Khosla in a pivotal character. Helmed by Milap Zaveri, Satyameva Jayate 2 is all set to release on May 12, 2021.
Salman Khan announced the wrap of his action-drama 'Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai' on October 14. Helmed by Prabhu Dheva, the movie would also be starring Disha Patani as the leading lady, which would also be her second film sharing screen space with Salman Khan. This film was initially set to hit the screens on Eid 2020, but the pandemic postponed all plans and now the makers have been planning to release the film on Eid 2021. The film would also feature Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles.
Taking to social media, Kangana Ranaut penned an emotional note to declare the wrap of Thalaivi on December 12. "And it's a wrap, today we successfully completed the filming of our most ambitious project Thalaivi- the revolutionary leader, rarely an actor finds a character that comes alive in flesh and blood and I fall in love so hard but now suddenly it's time to say bye, mixed feelings." Helmed by AL Vijay the movie also stars Arvind Swami and Prakash Raj. The film is slated for a 2021 release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.
Helmed by Anand L Rai, the movie stars Sara Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar and Dhanush in pivotal characters. As stated by a report from Mumbai Mirror, the screenplay of the film would follow a non-linear narrative of two romances from different timelines running in parallel. Sara would be romancing Dhanush and Akshay in two timelines, hence it has been reported to be a cross-cultural love story set in Bihar and Madurai. The film has been slated for a 2021 release.
