'Angrej' to show in Australia as theatres re-open

With Australia being one of the countries with the lowest Covid tally, the country decided to reopen itself cautiously. Among the few things that are reopening are cinema halls. According to a news report from the country in May, cinema halls in Australia were aiming to re-open in July, the National Association of Cinema Operators (NACO) had said. Now, we have confirmation about cinemas in Australia reopening, by none other than Sargun Mehta. On July 15, Sargun took to her social media handle to announce that her film, 'Angrej' opposite Amrinder Gill is set to show again in theatres in Australia from July 16. She posted a poster of the film with the caption, 'In theatres again in Australia. Stay safe'. The film is also special for Sargun since with this she made her debut in the Punjabi film industry, and garnered immediate appreciation and acceptance by the industry.

With NACO saying that it "acknowledges that studios will not release new titles until the majority of cinemas are opened around the world", returning older, successful films, especially for the Punjabi diaspora, seems like the only option for the country as it re-opened.

'Angrej', directed by Simerjit Singh and written by Amberdeep Singh, was a 2015 film that went on to gather critical acclaim and also shot Amrinder into prominence. The period drama is a love story set against the backdrop of the declining British rule in India. The film also cast Aditi Sharma, Ammy Virk and Binnu Dhillon. 'Angrej' had also gone on to become the second highest grossing film of 2015 with the first being, Diljit Dosanjh's 'Sardar ji'.
