9 Years of 'Singham': How Rohit Shetty turned Ajay Devgn starrer into 'Cop Universe' within a decade
It's been nine years since Ajay Devgn starrer Singham released. The film was one of the biggest hits of 2011 and people lauded the actor for his role as fearless Bajirao Singham. Helmed by Rohit Shetty, the film was the official Hindi remake of Tamil hit film Singam which starred Suriya in the titular role. The film also marked Kajal's debut as the leading lady in Bollywood. Whereas Prakash Raj reprised his role as the main antagonist in Singham too.
Today, as Singham clocks nine years of its release, let's take a look at how Rohit Shetty kickstarted his journey of creating a Cop Universe. After Singham, the films include Singham Returns, Simmba and soon-to-be-released Sooryavanshi. Ajay is joined by Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar in the Cop Universe.

1. 'Singham'
Rohit Shetty remade the hit Tamil film Singam starring Suriya in the titular role. Titled Singham, the film starred Ajay Devgn in the leading role along with Prakash Raj as the main antagonist and Kajal Aggarwal as the female lead.
The film released in 2011 went on to become a blockbuster and it started the journey of Singham franchise.
2. 'Singham Returns'
Ajay Devgn reprised the role of Bajirao Singham in Singham Returns and the sequel released in 2014. This time the film had Kareena Kapoor Khan as the female lead and Amole Gupta playing the negative role.
Even Singham Returns was declared a super hit at the box office.
3. 'Simmba'
Singham franchise took a turn with 2018 release Simmba in which Rohit Shetty roped in Ranveer Singh to play the cop Sangram Bhalerao. The film has Singh as a corrupt officer, who started his journey as an anti-hero and then showing the real duty of the cop.
He is inspired by Singham to become a cop but chose to be a corrupt one. However, in the climax, Ajay returns as Singham to help Simmba with the case.
The film was the Hindi remake of Telugu hit film Temper.
4. 'Sooryavanshi'
In the climax of Simmba, we not only see Singham but also a new entry in the form of Sooryavanshi played by Akshay Kumar. This indicated the journey of Cop Universe and in Sooryavanshi all three will be coming together to fight for justice.
