The Sky Is Pink box office collection Day 2: Priyanka Chopra film to make impact
The Sky Is Pink, directed by Shonali Bose, kick-started with a dull start at the box office. The film stars Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim and Rohit Saraf in lead roles.
Despite high scale promotions, both nationally and internationally, The Sky Is Pink failed to make an impact at the box office. The Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar film, which hit the screens on October 11, opened on a dry note at the theatres with earning just Rs 2.50 crore on Day 1. Though it bettered its box office numbers on Saturday, by an expected collection of Rs 4-5 crore, the Shonali Bose directorial film witnessed a dull start.
Apart from Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar, the film also stars Dangal star Zaira Wasim and newcomer Rohit Saraf. The film is based on the life of motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary, who died of pulmonary fibrosis. In The Sky Is Pink, Aisha (played by Zaira) tells the story of her parents - Aditi and Niren (played by Priyanka and Farhan) - posthumously.
The Sky Is Pink received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. About Priyanka's performance, India Today's movie reviewer Nairita Mukherjee writes, "Priyanka sticks out like a sore thumb sometimes. Like tourettes, her peppy persona with the hand-flinging - something we've seen her do on several international talk shows - creeps up mid-scene, kind of ruining it. At 50, she doesn't look 50, and the scene I described in the beginning, of her lying in bed awake, she is wearing lipstick on her perfectly puckered lips. Why?"

THE SKY IS PINK MOVIE REVIEW
She adds, "Despite that, The Sky Is Pink is precariously balanced between being overdramatic and overtly subtle - like Shoojit Sircar's October was overtly subtle. It leaves you with a lingering afterthought, I'm afraid most will not get. I'm sure because the couple sitting next to me dozed off! But then, no one said the sky is pink for everyone."
The Sky Is Pink marks the comeback of Priyanka Chopra in Bollywood, at the same time it is the last film of Dangal star Zaira Wasim. In June this year, Zaira announced her "disassociation" from the field of acting, saying she was not happy with the line of work as it interfered with her faith and religion.
While the film is still to gain momentum at the box office, it is to see if The Sky Is Pink will prove to be pathbreaking comeback for Priyanka Chopra.
