Super 30 box office collection Day 3: Hrithik Roshan film heads towards Rs 50-crore club
After his 2017 hit Kaabil, Hrithik Roshan is back with the educational drama Super 30, which is doing quite well at the box office. The film, directed by Vikas Bahl, made Rs 11.83 crore on the first day of its release. On its second day, it soared and collected Rs 18.19 crore. It is expected to have made Rs 16 crore on its third day, bringing its total collection to around Rs 46 crore approx.
Super 30 is based on the life of Patna-based mathematician Anand Kumar, who started the Super 30 program for aspiring underprivileged kids, who wish to crack the prestigious IIT entrance exam. Hrithik plays the role of Anand in the film, and Mrunal Thakur is his love interest.
While the film might be making money at the box office, critics are not too impressed with it. India Today's movie reviewer Samruddhi Ghosh gave the film 2.5 stars out of 5. She wrote, "Certain parts of Super 30 seem very far-fetched. One student, who falls short of Anand's Super 30 by a mark, is brought in at the last minute to not just miraculously give a musical performance in a few hours but also crack the IIT-JEE despite missing out on months of training. Director Vikas Bahl unnecessarily amps up the drama, and there is even a sequence where the Super 30 students fend off a gang of professional assassins trying to attack Anand at a hospital. It is a challenge to make films on people whose lives have unfolded before us, in our lifetime."
Super 30 was delayed for a long time and was stuck in controversies as the director Vikas Bahl was accused of sexual harassment. He had to step aside, and Anurag Kashyap oversaw the post-production work. However, in June he was cleared of all charges after an internal inquiry by Reliance Entertainment and was reinstated as director.
