The Manipuri-language film Boong has won the BAFTA Award for Best Children and Family Film. It marked the only Indian win at the 79th British Academy Film and Television Arts Awards in London.
It was a proud, emotional moment for Indian cinema on the global stage as Boong created history at the 79th British Academy Film Awards. The Manipuri-language film, produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment, won the BAFTA for Best Children and Family Film, emerging as the only Indian title to take home an award this year.
Reacting to the win, Farhan Akhtar shared a heartfelt note on social media, celebrating the film's team and its director Lakshmipriya Devi. "Could not be happier for LP Devi and the cast and crew of Boong (sic)," he wrote.
Calling the film a "beautiful, heartwarming gem," Farhan said seeing it honoured on the BAFTA stage was "truly an unforgettable moment" and added that the recognition would mean a great deal to "dreamers and storytellers back home (sic)".
